DMP – ‘Door Mans Project’ is a talented reggae crew of 4 male vocalists and musicians hailing from Solomon Islands. MC Arak, Blad P2A, Evin Rush, DJ Victor Lopez & Mossa make up the supergroup with numerous smash hits singles known throughout the Pacific Islands. Having released 4 breakthrough albums ‘Projectile, Square One, Wine Up & Life Is A Road + The ‘Tonight’ EP.
Doorman’s Project , also known as DMP, are a Solomon Island Reggae band formed in Guadalcanal, Honiara in 2002.
Doorman’s Project was formed in Honiara, Solomon Islands, in 2002, by the brothers Barnabas Fafale and David Kairi Fafale with Mosten “Cat” Hani in which they then started recording records as a group in 2004 with Melanesian Studios. However, the album recorded at Melanesian studios was not released and the group moved on to Shefram Sound Production Studios and ended up releasing singles in 2006 under the name Shefram Crew and Hard Life through Papua New Guinea’s record label ‘CHM Supersound’.
Around the same time ‘Mosten Hani aka Mossa’ would become lead singer of another award-winning reggae band from the Solomon Islands called ‘Onetox’ who are also pioneers of the Solomon Reggae genre and considered pivotal in the island reggae music scene for being the first group from the South Pacific to go viral with there song ‘Ramukanji’.
They later appeared on record in 2007, backing ‘Onetox‘ on the single “Pulemai”. This was one of several singles on which they backed ‘Onetox’. In 2009 the band was expanded when they were joined by the forth member of the group ‘Bradley Pitua aka Blad P2A.
Those projects under Shefram Studios would ultimately lead them into recording there first music videos for singles for ‘Lonely & Pulemae’ and having a cameo appearance on the ‘Ramukanji’ music video.
In 2010 the band released their debut album “Projectile” under Mangrove Studios in New Caledonia.
Their first album contained a fusion of Solomon Islands Pijin and English lyrics which was different to the traditional way songs were made back then and introduced a unorthodox mixed style of island reggae, island pop and ragga which helped elevate the album to its success amongst the pacific island region.
Shortly after releasing the first album the band ended up securing and taking out the ‘Pacific Artist of the Year Award’ at the inaugural 6th Yumi Fm Digicel PNG Musik Awards held in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
Having built a strong fan base on neighbouring country Papua New Guinea, in 2011 they would come to release there third studio album ‘Life is a Road Vol.1’ under the CHM Supersound label which included 2 major released cover songs titled ‘Sorry, Baby Can I Hold You’ written by Tracey Chapman and ‘Out From Under’ written by Britney Spears. The stand out song on the album was ‘Gole’ which went straight to number one on the charts and was the longest charting number one song in PNG.
With a string of hit singles from the current and previous albums the band started touring countries outside of the Solomon Islands including Australia, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, New Caledonia, Vanuatu & Marshal Islands.
Mid 2011 would see lead singer ‘Mosten Hani’ create another side project with Solomon Islands musician ‘Junior ‘Jiu Kiu’ Heston’ and from the reggae duo ‘Small Jam’.
Following the success of their tour in 2012, ‘DMP were awarded the best Pacific Album of the year by New Caledonia and awarded the song of the year, group of the year and People’s choice in the Solo Music Award.
Shortly after the band would release their 3rd studio album under the Mangrove Productions label Tittled ‘Square One’ in 2013.
The following year in 2015, Doorman’s Project signed there 4th record deal with Mangrove Studios and released the ‘Wine Up’ Album. They would soon team up with Solomon Island ‘videographer ‘Torn Parachute and release the music video to there single ‘Darling’ featuring Jenno.
The bands single, My Island Home , from there album, Square One, was featured in the 2018, CBS Television Series’ Magnum P.I. – Winner Takes All ‘season 1, episode 12.
Mid/Late 2018 would see the band perform at the 6th Melanesian Festival of Arts & Culture and tour Australia, PNG & Fiji once again on a massive tour consisting of 30+ shows within the duration of 3 months. The largest consecutively running tour in the history of any Solomon Islands artist.
In 2019 the band released the ‘Tonight E.P.’ as there final release through the Mangrove Label and have now started up there own independent record label ‘Lopez Records’ alongside long time friend, producer, DJ & manager ‘Victor Lopez’ from Sydney, Australia.
2020 see’s the release of Doorman’s Project new album with honourable collaborations with legendary Jamaican artists ‘Anthony B, Da’Ville & British Virgin Islands (4x Platinum) Island Pop artist ‘Iyaz’ known for his song ‘Replay’.
